How to prevent candidates from appearing in searches and receiving outreach

Last updated: February 7, 2026

If you need to prevent specific candidates from appearing in your searches or receiving outreach emails, you can use Pin's Block List feature. This is useful when candidates request not to be contacted or when you want to exclude employees from certain companies.

Adding candidates to the Block List

To prevent candidates from appearing in searches and receiving outreach:

  1. Go to Settings → Block List

  2. Add candidates by email address

  3. You can also block entire companies by adding their website or LinkedIn URL

  4. For bulk additions, you can upload a CSV file with email addresses or company domains

Once added to the Block List, these candidates will not appear in Sourcing searches and will not receive outreach, even if someone tries to add them to a campaign.

For detailed instructions, see: Adding candidates to Block List

What you can and cannot block

You can block by:

  • Email address (individual candidates)

  • Company website or LinkedIn URL (all current employees)

  • Email domains (bulk blocking by company domain)

You cannot block by:

  • Candidate name only

  • Former employees (the system only filters current employees when blocking companies)

Important limitations

Keep in mind that blocking only works by email address for individual candidates. If a candidate uses a different email address in the future, they may appear in searches again. There is no way to block someone by name alone.

When blocking companies, Pin will filter out current employees but not former employees. If you need to exclude former employees as well, you'll need to add negative filters in your individual searches.

Additional options

If you want to remove a candidate from active outreach sequences without blocking them permanently, you can archive the candidate in your workflow instead. This removes them from current campaigns but doesn't prevent them from appearing in future searches.
